Whether you are in the throws of raising your kids or are an empty nester with older kids I think we can all relate to absentminded parenting. I just made that word up..actually. I get so caught up in the day to day details and the big stresses of life that take up space in my mind that I am NOT mindful. Anyway, I sadly find myself in this absent minded place. I could be making dinner and thinking about what else has to be done. My daughter will start to tell me something and I will just talk right over her as if she is saying nothing. "Did you finish your homework? Because you have laundry to put away" I do this alot. Talk over them to get my thoughts, orders, what needs to be done...OUT. I am a bad listener. This is my biggest challenge..I am going to make a conscious effort to quiet my mind , let the laundry wait and listen. Just listen to their little voices. I know my middle schooler needs me to listen now more than ever.
I recently painted the fridge with chalkboard paint. And my 2 youngest will doodle and write me messages while we are in the kitchen. My son wrote me this message above and it reminds me everyday to LISTEN. After all, we all need and want to be heard.
